I’ll never forget the first time I showed up to a postpartum visit… and realized: I was certified… and still unprepared.

My very first postpartum client had the most beautiful Juneteenth birth. I’d done the trainings, read The Fourth Trimester and all the books, and I was so excited to support her postnatally. But standing in her living room, baby in her arms… I froze. I didn’t know how to lead. I didn’t know how to postpartum.

I knew what needed to happen in theory. But actually setting the scene, reading the room, and navigating the real emotions and needs in front of me? That was a whole different story.

...And then there was the time I totally said the wrong thing.

Another client, baby girl Serenity, named after a birth that was anything but serene. She was deep in despair. I panicked, grasped for what I’d heard in clinical spaces, and asked: “Are you thinking about hurting you or your baby?” 🥴 Cringe, cringe, cringe.

That “screening” approach wasn’t care. It wasn’t connection. It shut her down and her mother off. That day I realized: I loved postpartum care, but I didn’t yet know how to do it well.

I am a bridge between worlds. My work rests at the intersection of science and Spirit, rooted in ancestral womb work, womanism, reproductive justice, and transformation through education. I am an alchemist, tending to life’s most vulnerable and sacred transitions—birth, loss, and rebirth. As a Postpartum Specialist with a deep reverence for women, I stand for the mothers, the ones who hold the generations (literally and metaphorically).

As the visionary behind Blooming All Over and a certified birth worker with formal degrees in Psychology, Biology, and Public Health, I have spent the past 15 years studying and weaving together holistic wellness practices that nurture the whole being, rather than simply treating symptoms. I stand at the forefront of Postpartum Liberation, inviting Black and Brown families to reclaim what has always been theirs: sacred care, deep rest, and the right to heal fully.

My journey has been intentionally global. I spent four transformative years living in South Korea, immersing myself in eastern medicine, followed by several months in Tanzania, deepening my connection to the land and ancestral practices. I furthered my studies in traditional healing under the renowned Queen Afua, whose teachings left an indelible mark on my work. Teachers and birth workers like Latham Thomas, Summayah Franklin, and Panquetzani have shaped the evolution of my care philosophy—layered, intentional, and deeply holistic.

This path of mine has been blessed by sacred encounters with Afro-Colombian midwives in Buenaventura, Colombia—a reminder that my calling is ancestral. My hands have been guided by those who recognize postpartum care as a sacred rite of passage, and I have traveled the world to sit at the feet of the wise ones. From midwives and herbalists in Guatemala to womb healers and elders in Thailand, I have devoted my life to this work. And even further, and perhaps most importantly, I carry and continue the mantle of spiritual and communal healing from my paternal grandmother, Doris Barton. I understand very clearly the assignment on my life, and part of that is to support you with yours.
